We see the ultimate end and downfall of Haman today. Be sure your sin will find you out.
Esther 7:
1 So the king and Haman went in to feast with Queen Esther.
2 And on the second day, as they were drinking wine after the feast, the king again said to Esther, "What is your wish, Queen Esther? It shall be granted you. And what is your request? Even to the half of my kingdom, it shall be fulfilled."
3 Then Queen Esther answered, "If I have found favour in your sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be granted me for my wish, and my people for my request.
4 For we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to be annihilated. If we had been sold merely as slaves, men and women, I would have been silent, for our affliction is not to be compared with the loss to the king."
5 Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther, "Who is he, and where is he, who has dared to do this?"
6 And Esther said, "A foe and enemy! This wicked Haman!" Then Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.
Haman Is Hanged
7 And the king arose in his wrath from the wine-drinking and went into the palace garden, but Haman stayed to beg for his life from Queen Esther, for he saw that harm was determined against him by the king.
8 And the king returned from the palace garden to the place where they were drinking wine, as Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was. And the king said, "Will he even assault the queen in my presence, in my own house?" As the word left the mouth of the king, they covered Haman's face.
9 Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs in attendance on the king, said, "Moreover, the gallows that Haman has prepared for Mordecai, whose word saved the king, is standing at Haman's house, fifty cubits high."
10 And the king said, "Hang him on that." So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the wrath of the king abated.
Things to think about…
1. Even though the king has been drinking, he is not unaware of the situation. The king knows that Esther has something on her mind and heart. He asks Esther her request, Esth 7:2. Esther is bold from Esth 7:3-6. Her fasting, praying, and party planning have all led to this one moment. Esther’s planning reaches its climax as she reveals to Ahasuerus her heart’s desire – to be rid of the enemy of her people. She puts it into perspective. If it were just slavery, what imposition would that be to be king, but it was the destruction, the annihilation of her people, vs 4. As we have said, this is why Hitler has been compared to Haman.
2. Haman, knows his fate is sealed and his end is imminent. Haman is now terrified of the king and Esther, Esth 7:6. The king leaves in a rage to the garden to gather his thoughts; only to return to find Haman clutching at his wife the queen – obviously pleading for mercy, but this is not how the king sees it. He sees this as the final offense and has him hanged on the gallows Haman purposed for Mordecai. The words of his Hamn’s wife were fulfilled and the wheel of justice is complete for Haman and he is hanged, vs 10. While there have been many attempts to silence or wipe out the Jews, the God of Israel is the same God of heaven and earth. He will not see it done, even though they cause much pain to themselves and other nations afflict pain on them throughout the generations, they will prevail because of His great love towards them. Jesus was a Jew. Our Saviour while He was made in the image of man, expressed that image in the form of a Jew from the line of David. Keep this truth in your hearts as you worship your Saviour.
3. There are also many parallels that can be seen between Haman and Judas Iscariot in the NT? Some have also compared Herod with Haman when he annihilated all the boys under 2 years of age in Bethlehem after the wise men had left him, Matt 2:16-18. The offspring of Jacob or Jesus will not be killed off. If God is for us, who can be against us, Rom 8:31.
